Chamomile- one of the organic herbs in soothing bath tea

Ten years ago in December I became a Mother and was beautifully gifted with a baby girl three days from my own birthday- what a wonderful gift! I couldn’t wait to practice all I had learnt in my many years of training and experience as a herbalist and aromatherapist on my own family; taking care of my family naturally with the support of herbs, flowers and nurturing touch was what I had always envisioned. In the early days after birth as many mothers experience, there is a need to gently heal and nurture oneself to prepare for long days and nights devoted to the loving care to your growing baby. Every day I bathed in a blend of Calendula, Chamomile and Lavender flowers for post partum healing and to help me to feel calm, relaxed and totally soothed. I had already, a few years before becoming a mother completely omitted any chemical based products from my personal use and began to replace with my own hand crafted versions using only natural ingredients. I wanted to ensure too that my baby was not absorbing chemicals from well known baby bath and skin care brands. Babies have extemely delicate and sensitive skin and are prone to soreness and redness, especially on their little cherry bums. When you first bring your baby home you are advised to cleanse your baby with warm water using cotton wool and that baby’s skin does not require cleaning with soap and gels.

Natural skincare for all the family

With your first baby you have that wonderful one to one time that is truly magical but unfortunately is never replicated as you add more babes to your tribe. I was blessed to have time every day to bathe Rebecca in my soothing bath tea blend of flowers to gently cleanse her skin, soothe and heal any irritations and soreness and help her to feel calm, relaxed and ready for her massage, which generally followed as part of our bonding and nurturing time together as Mother and baby. Now, all three kids like to enjoy soothing bath tea added to their bath, especially if they need calming or have any skin irritations but most of all because it’s a beautiful golden colour and they think that I am filling their bath with wee!!!Delightful!! Well it may look like wee but that is as far as the similarities go!

Why natural organic products are better for us and our planet

Actually with today’s mass manufactured skin care products are full of chemical ingredients, this does create a problem, not only for the health of our skin and our children’s delicate skin but also internally over time effecting our wellbeing as we absorb everything we use on our skin, bathe in, shower in, wash in, all these products are absorbed into our bodies and create a build up of toxins, not to mention the chemicals and toxins that wash into our water systems and impact on our eco systems, wild life and planet.

So what could be better for the whole family to gently cleanse the skin and hair, soothe and calm irritations, calm and relax the body and mind with its gentle and natural properties?Yes you guessed it, the natural properties of plants. Soothing bath tea as I have now named the blend of organic flowers I used ten years ago and have continued to use for our family’s skin care and wellbeing is a natural alternative to soaps, bath soak and shampoo, all you need is a bath and a tea pot or cafetiere!
